Description
Details:
The round 50c coin debuted in 1966 with Australia's change into decimal currency, and was the only circulating silver content decimal coin. The silver value of the coin soon outweighed its face value, and thus were withdrawn from circulation, however the Australian public were prone to hoarding the precious coin.
On the reverse of this coin in particular, starting from the edge nearest to the tip of the kangaroos tail and moving diagonally through the 0 to the parallel edge, a large crack has formed, with the cause most likely to be small, trapped gas bubbles that occured while minting, or a poor alloy mixture-- this is known as a Lamination (or Planchet) Error.
