DETAILS
Sir Charles Kingsford Smith is regarded as the greatest man ever to fly. His name is held in the same esteem as aviation luminaries such as the Wright Brothers and General Chcuk Yeager, the first man to break the sound barrier. He is most well known for two record breaking adventures - circumnavigating continental Australia and crossing the Pacific Ocean. Altogether in his short life Sir Charles achieved 16 flying records at the controls of various airoplanes that modern aeronautics define as dinosaurs.
1997 represents the centenary of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's birth. The Royal Australian Mint, in their tradition of honouring an Australian who has greatly contributed to this country, has released this special coin, as part of the 1997 proof coin set, featuring Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.
The obverse of each coin features the traditional portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse of the $2 coin was designed by Horst Hahne and reserse designs for the 5c, 10c, 20c, and 50c coins were created by Stuart Devlin. The reverse of the $1 coin was designed by Wojciech Pietranik.
Please Note: These are second-hand collectables and may contain scratches, creases, marks, toning or other minor damage. Feel free to ask for photos before purchasing.
