Details:
The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be held from the 15th to the 26th of March 2006. These are the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be staged since the first in Canada in 1930. The Queen's Baton Relay has been a part of the Commonwealth Games tradition since 1958. The Queen is the Head of the Commonwealth and the Baton carries her message to athletes and is traditionally read out at the Opening Ceremony of the Games. The Melbourne 2006 Baton, made of gold and magnesium and incorperating the latest technology, including a satellite tracking device and "Baton Cam", began it's 180,000 kilometre journey at Buckingham Palace in March 2005 and passes through 71 Commonwealth Nations before arriving in Melbourne.
