From the 15th to the 26th of March, the XVIII Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne. The first Games were staged in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1930. Long known as the 'Friendly Games', the XVIII Commonwealth Games, which are being held in Australia for the fourth time, will attract over 4,500 athletes from all 71 Commonwealth Natiosn. The Royal AUstralian Mint $5 Uncirculated coin, designed by Wojciech Pietranik, celebrates the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. The coin incorperates, in a diffused and balletic manner, symbolic figures signifying the spirit and sports of the Games. The 71 figures, surrounding the Commonwealth Crown and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games logo, represent the competing Commonwealth nations.
