DETAILS

Every time the Royal Australian Mint produces a new issue, two coins are hand-picked from the first batch and retained as quality standards. One is kept on the factory floor for checking purposes, then destroyed after five years. The second master is marked in red and placed in the official mint archives. This is therefore the only legal tender coin from a particular strike to not be included in the overall mintage figures, making it unique and of specific significance.
