Scouting has been enjoyed in Australia since 1908, and since that time, scouting has played a part in the development of two million Australians. Today, a vast amount of young people enjoy its benefits. Scouting is now the largest youth movement in the world, with more than 28 million members in 155 countries. To recognise the contribution that Scouting has made and will continue to make to Australia, 2008 was declared by the former Prime Minister John Howard as the “Year of the Scout”.
