Details
The International Year of Planet Earth in 2008 promotes research in the Earth Sciences. The aim of the International Year is to demonsrate new ways in which Earth Sciences can help future generations meet the challenges involved in ensuring a safer and more prosperous world. Among key areas of study for the 'International Year of Planet Earth' are aspects of climate change and water resources. As our country struggles with the aftermath of drought these subjects are especially relevant to the Australian experience. The 2008 Two Coin Proof Set compliments the Six Coin Proof Set and features the standard $1 coin circulating design and the special 20c coin design. Mint designer Vladimir Gottwald has created a design for the 20c coin that portrays the effects of tsunami, floods, earthquakes and salinity.
