Details

The effect of war was felt strongly at home in Australia. The hardest thing for many families was not knowing the fate of their loved ones serving overseas. Unlike today's immediate methods of communication, it could take months for news to find its way home. Censorship also meant soldiers weren't allowed to talk about military operations in their letters, or in many cases, even say where they were.
