Details
With around 2.5 million recreational surfers taking advantage of Australia’s vast coastline, surfing can truly be called a national pastime. Thrust into popularity by Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku in 1914, surfing became the realm of the young and adventurous. Recent generations have seen it become a serious professional sport and cultural icon. Accompanying surfing’s rise to prominence was Surfing Australia, established fifty years ago to guide and promote the development of Australian surfing. Since then the organization has represented the sport locally and internationally through surf schools, development programs, camps, coaching and sponsorships.
