As the first reigning monarch to ever visit Australia, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been one of Australia's favourite Royal personages since her visit in 1954. Since its inception in 1965, the Royal Australian Mint has commemorated significant Royal events since that year with specially minted collector coins. From the Silver Jubilee in 1977 to the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the British monarchy's memorable milestones, marriages, accessions and anniversaries have been immortalised with special collector editions.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have come to grow their own international fanfare as seen with the media frenzy of the birth of their first baby, Prince George, which underlined the global popularity of the young British royals.
