Details
Australian Light Horse regiments were made up of men who would usually ride to battle before dismounting and fighting on foot. The Australian Imperial Force (AIF) mounted regiments of World War One earned a reputation for being courageous and tough. Most Light Horsemen came from country towns. At war's end, the fact they had to leave thei beloved horses behind on foreign soil caused great distress among the soldiers.
