At a time when flared trousers and platform shoes were Seventies hallmarks, the HQ Kingswood hit the streets of Australia and quickly became an automotive icon. It was promoted as a luxury version of the full size family car and boasted a 'jet-smooth ride' over rough roads. Modern Motor magazine editors said that an 8800 kilometre test of the HQ Kingswood had shown that the new model 'raised the average family man's car to above average status'.
