DETAILS

International Day of People with Disability aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability as well as celebrating their achievements and contributions. The Royal Australian Mint is proud to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the International Day of People with Disability with this uncirculated coin.

Over 4.3 million Australians live with some form of disability. That’s one in five people. On 3 December 2017, the nation celebrates the 25th anniversary of the International Day of People with Disability. This United Nations sanctioned day promotes the understanding of people with disability and encourages support for their dignity, rights and wellbeing. Supported by the Australian Government, the International Day of People with Disability breaks down barriers by celebrating what people with disability can achieve when given the opportunity to reach their full potential. By building awareness and understanding of people with disability, the International Day of People with Disability inspires communities to see what can be done and how to take action.
