Every V8-powered Falcon owes a debt to the oringal Falcon GT. The XR was the first Falcon to wear the now legendary badge and started the Australian muscle-car rivalry between Ford, Holden, and Chrysler as the first V8-powered Falcon. A limited run of 596 Falcon GTs were built to meet the homologation requirements to race - and win - at Bathurst, all painted in 'GT Gold' and borrowing the Mustang's 289ci 'Windsor' V8 and four-speed manual gearbox.
