Coming in at an almighty 2,000 kilograms, you’d be hard pressed to throw this prawn on the barbie. The Big Prawn, in Western Australia’s Exmouth, is four metres long and impressively realistic (if you ignore its size).

Constructed in 2004, The Big Prawn waves its long antennae at people who stop at the Ningaloo Visitor Centre. It was built to commemorate the region’s successful prawning industry, which produces about 900 tonnes of wild-caught prawns each year.

In 2020, The Big Prawn underwent a nine-hour paint job to restore its vibrant red exoskeleton. Big Things enthusiasts be warned – The Big Prawn is no competition for the region’s fierce cyclone season, and it’s stowed away between December and March each year.
