Queen Elizabeth II was born on 21 April 1926 and ascended the throne in 1952 at the age of 25, following Issue Limit 250 the death of her father, King George VI. She married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, and together they had four children. Her reign spanned 70 years, making her the longest-serving monarch in British history. Throughout her life, she was a symbol of resilience and dedication, guiding the monarchy through decades of profound social and political change. As Head of the Commonwealth, she fostered
unity across diverse nations and remained a steadfast figure on the global stage. Queen Elizabeth II passed away on 8 September 2022, and was succeeded by her eldest son, King Charles III. In 2026, the world commemorates what would have been her 100th birthday—celebrating a life of service, dignity and devotion to her country and the Commonwealth.
The coin’s reverse features a stylised representation of the commemorative florin issued in 1954 to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s first visit to Australia. It showcases a lion and a kangaroo standing side by side, a powerful symbol of the enduring bond between the United Kingdom and Australia. Both the lion and kangaroo, as well as the coin’s outer rim are gilded in 24-carat gold. Surrounding the design is the inscription “H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II 100th ANNIVERSARY”, accompanied by stylised dots, the 2026 yeardate, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, along with the coin’s weight, fineness and monetary denomination.
