The Royal Australian Mint presents this 2026 Coloured Uncirculated carded coin to mark the 85th anniversary key chapters of Australia's military involvement in 1941.

This coin represents the establishment of women's services.

The Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) was formed in March 1941 after lobbying by women keen to serve, and by the Chief of the Air Staff who wanted to release male personnel for service overseas. Then came the Women's Royal Australian Naval Service (WRANS) in April, and the Australian Women's Army Service (AWAS) in August. Over 50,00 women enlisted in these services during the Second World War, and they worked in a wide range of roles- among them drivers, mechanics, cooks, stewards, typists and telegraphists. 
Australia began to realise the difference that women serving in uniform could make to the war effort. Seperate services for women were disbanded during the 1980's, and all roles were gradually opened to women.
