The 1980 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 saw a string shift toward durability and power, leading the Holden Dealer Team to introduce the Commodore VC- a machine specifically built to excel in endurance racing. In a fierce and entertaining spectacle, Brock and Richards soared to an incredible come-from-behind victory after rival and race leader Dick Johnson was forced to retire after a serious crash. With the victory, Brock and Richards became the first pairing to record a Bathurst hat-trick in Australian motorsport history.
