Ford's crusing one-two form finish at the Bathurst 1977 provided a seminal moment in Australian motor racing history. Even so, Ford Australia wasn't enjoying much showroom access with its XC Falcon hardtops. But a clever piece of strategy by Edsel Ford II, Henry Ford's great-grandson, turned this around. While earning his stripes with a posting at Broadmeadows, Edsel suggested using the revered "Cobra" monker and striped paintwork for a limited edition batch of 400 Falcon V8 hardtops.
