Larry Perkins' victory with Gregg Hansford in the 1993 Bathurst 1000 was built upon sheer speed and engineering know-how. Their VP Commodore was the fastest car all weekm in the qualifiers and in the top 10 Shootout, taking pole position. Unlike his fellow Commodore drivers, Perkins opted to stick with Holden's trusty five-litre V8 engine rather than move to the supposedly superior Chevrolet-based united used by his main rivals.
